Roux came to Blackburn in early 2003 from Brandywine Kennel in Ohio.  Like Terra in 2002, Roux was the result of research throughout late 2002/early 2003 to bring another bred to hunt, athletic bitch into our family.  When we came across the North Hills Nash x Leewinds Bonnet cross, we were immediately intrigued.  Nash, owned and bred by Shelley & Cookie Steinmetz of Connecticut, are well respected Jack Russell enthusiasts; Shelley is a JRTCA sanctioned conformation judge.  Nash is a son of White Gate Bomber, one of the nicest American bred Jack Russells of the last 30 years.  Among Nash's accomplishments are winning Best Working Dog at the 2002 JRTCA National trial.  Roux's dam, on the other hand, brings in some of the same blood we brought into Blackburn with Sow's Ear Thierren.  Bonnet's two grandsires are Garon's Sailor and Beano of Ravenswood - like Sow's Ear Thierren.  That on top of the hunting ability Bonnie has shown thus far - having earned the JRTCA Bronze Medallion - convinced us that a pup from this cross would be a wonderful addition.

Roux is quite a character.  Unfortunately for us, she has taken after Blackburn Kira Nerys as her best friend/mentor.  This would be fine, except for the fact that thanks to her having been a singleton pup, Kira is just about the most obnoxious Jack Russell you'll ever come across!  She is constantly up to something and always looking for trouble.  Roux has taken after Kira in this respect and because of that, she's been a bit of a handful as a pup!  That notwithstanding, she has had an excellent season as a puppy.  After recovering from an injury suffered early on, Roux has gone on to one Reserve Puppy Conformation championship (2003 Loess Hills), in addition to multiple 2nd and 3rd place finishes in her class.  We look forward to continued success!

She will begin to school in the field this winter.  We will update this page with her progress!
