Blackburn is a small kennel, located on 65 acres in the tiny town of Leslie, about 65 miles southwest of St. Louis, Missouri.
Starting with his terrier "Trump", the Parson John Russell meticulously developed the Jack Russell from his parish in Swymbridge, North Devon in the
mid-1800s. The Parson was an avid sportsman and fox hunter - he needed an energetic, determined, yet compact terrier to assist in his hunts. Over
the years, following the Parsons lead, many have helped turn the Jack Russell into what it is today: an incredible worker, a tremendous athlete, and a
devoted companion. It is these characteristics of the Jack Russell that we love and are completely committed to protecting and improving upon. Our
terriers trace their blood back to some of the best known Jack Russells of the last thirty years from the United Kingdom and United States. They are
beloved members of our family and we are quite proud of their accomplishments.
Here at the Blackburn homepage you'll find all sorts of information about the Jack Russell. We are members of and our kennel
is registered with the
Jack Russell Terrier Club of America.
The JRTCA has been called by many the finest dog registry in the world, and it is the only credible registry in the United States whose collection of members
have proven themselves to be true to the working character of the JRT. We are also signatory to the
JRTCA Breeders Code of Ethics.
On the Blackburn Terriers page you can introduce yourself to our pack. We breed one or two litters during the course of a
year, paying close attention to the working character of those we cross - the Blackburn Puppies page contains litter announcements,
photographs, and other information. In the gallery you'll find many photos of our terriers doing what they love - working
in the earth, competing at trials, or lounging with us. We have also provided links to many other Jack Russell pages that
may be of interest to you - local clubs, message boards, fellow breeders, etc. Take a look around and feel free to contact us.
Be sure to always check the what's new page for updates on what we've been up to since your last visit.
If you have any questions or comments about Jack Russells, the Blackburn terriers specifically, the clubs we're affiliated with, or anything else JRT-related, please feel free to send them our way. We're happy to help anyone who would like to know more about the JRT, or talk terriers with someone already familar with these guys.
